In a small village in Ghana, table tennis is more than a sport. For the children and young people of the Backhanders Table Tennis Club in Kwanyako, it is one of the few openings in a life shaped by economic hardship and cultural limitations.
Philippa walks long distances between home, school, and training, balancing domestic responsibilities with a quiet, unwavering dedication to the game. Eric nearly lost his place in the club after his father died, until coach Godwyn intervened. Godwyn has made it his mission to keep these young people playing — and to create space for girls like Philippa, who are often overlooked in both sport and everyday life.
They train in a hall shared with a church and a pottery business, under a leaking roof. The space was never truly theirs — and shortly after filming ended, they lost it. But the club continues. For now, a new space has been found.
ITS MY FOOD, ITS MY WATER is a portrait of resilience, told through the rhythms of village life and the small, persistent hope carried by a white ball.
