testing facility
The exhibition Testing Facility takes place in the former testing and research facilities of the Siemens complex in Munich-Obersendling – a site that continues to embody the spirit of industrial inquiry, technological innovation, and experimental practice. The project adopts the spatial and historical resonance of this environment as a point of departure for an artistic investigation into processes of experimentation, failure, and the transfer of material as well as conceptual knowledge.
The remaining architectural test chambers, technical devices, and measuring instruments are consciously integrated into the artistic works. Drawing upon the material traces and layered histories of the site, the participating artists reengage the relics of industrial modernity and translate them into contemporary aesthetic constellations. The former laboratory thus becomes a stage for reflection, transformation, and reinterpretation.
In contrast to the neutrality of the white cube, the site-specific conditions of Testing Facility generate new possibilities for artistic articulation. The dialogue between industrial rationality and aesthetic intuition, between control and openness, research and contingency, defines the conceptual framework of the project. Ultimately, Testing Facility situates itself within the broader discourse on the relationship between art, site, and memory—reframing a space once dedicated to scientific experimentation as a locus of aesthetic and epistemic inquiry.
